Electric Motor Overhauling

Electric motor overhauling is essential to ensure uninterrupted machine performance and to prevent costly breakdowns. Electric motors are the driving force behind most industrial machinery, and their failure can bring entire operations to a halt. Common issues like roller bearing failure, end shield bore oversize, rotor vibration, shaft wear, overheating, and winding short circuits are signs that a motor is deteriorating. These problems not only reduce efficiency but can also cause unexpected stoppages, especially during peak production times. Regular overhauling motor should be part of a preventive maintenance schedule not just something done after a breakdown occurs. Planned overhauling electric motor ensures better equipment reliability, longer motor life, and reduced downtime.

Electric Motor Overhauling Process

The overhauling process begins with sandblasting using special grits to remove cement, rust, old paint, and dirt. This is followed by disassembly of covers and deep cleaning of the rotor and stator while carefully preserving insulation. Technicians inspect and refurbish the insulation and connection terminals. If necessary, rewinding is carried out. The rotor shaft is checked for alignment and repaired as required, and slip rings are machined when applicable. The rotor is dynamically balanced, and worn-out roller bearings and seals (FAG/SKF) are replaced. Cooling fans are repaired or replaced, all damaged parts and bolts are renewed, and the entire motor is reassembled. Finally, it is coated with an epoxy primer and top coat for corrosion protection. A no-load test is conducted, including checks for insulation resistance, current draw, vibration levels, and operating temperature, ensuring the motor is fully restored and ready for reliable operation.
